EasyStep2 presents Industry 4.0 survey at Microsoft

As the first innovative SME partner in the Netherlands, EasyStep2 today presented the results of the Industry 4.0 survey at Microsoft's headquarters. A select group of customers received a presentation of the findings, followed by interactive sessions on the practical applicability of technological innovation in SMEs. Of course, a tour of the Microsoft Customer Experience Center was also on the program.

Cross-world scenarios

On behalf of Microsoft, Niels Roos presented a selection of cross-world scenarios in which he translated international experiences at production companies and logistics service providers into Dutch SMEs. In particular, the ways in which the service economy actively uses customer data to improve the service, received attention.

Use artificial intelligence for SMEs

Denise Torsy spoke on behalf of Tech Data as the second speaker. She discussed the benefits of AI (Artificial Intelligence) for SMEs. Although it is initially seen by many as a threat to one's own job, the opposite appears to be true in practice. Because AI can take over repetitive tasks, people get the time to focus on the creative and innovative elements of the work.

Findings Industry 4.0 survey

On behalf of EasyStep2, Rick Blom presented the main findings of the large Industry 4.0 survey that EasyStep2 conducted among SMEs at the end of last year. What is happening in this area and what is possible? One of the most important conclusions: a large proportion of SMEs indicate that they do not know what Industry 4.0 is, while at the same time it appears that they are already taking advantage of the possibilities.

Practical examples of Industry 4.0 for SMEs

Maarten Pouwels of EasyStep2 highlighted practical examples of Industry 4.0 as a supplement. Together with those present, he discussed the translation from theory to practice. Challenges for SMEs include training, motivation and knowledge of staff. The solution lies in part in user-friendliness. But just as important are measures that help overcome carelessness and can simplify the execution of work.

Tour of the Microsoft Customer Experience Center

Host Microsoft provided a tour through the Customer Experience Center where practical setups of Industry 4.0 solutions can be seen. Among other things, a 3D scanner, networked key and goods box and a remote repair were demonstrated. The attendees were given ample opportunity to ask questions and handle the technology themselves.

Opportunities and limits of Industry 4.0

To round off the day, two groups discussed the possibilities and limits of Industry 4.0. Within this interaction, innovation was tested against daily practice. The day will be continued later this year. The attendees then come together to discuss the progress of the transition to Industry 4.0 within Dutch SMEs.
